post secondary education liberal policy

Post-Secondary Education

A re-elected Liberal government will help more students prepare for good jobs while taking on less debt.

For waves of generations, education has been the path to success and opportunity. Canadians work hard so that their children can get ahead with a post-secondary education.

Yet education has become more expensive and the burden of student debt drags down too many young people right when they are getting started in life.

A re-elected Liberal government will enact the following policies to support our young people:

  • increase Canada Student Grants by another 40 per cent – giving students up to $1,200 more
  • give students a two-year grace period on their student loans, interest free, and no repayments until they earn $35,000
  • let parents pause student loan repayments — with no interest — when they start a family. Repayments won’t kick in until their youngest child turns 5 years old. That’s more money for things like baby gear and child care in those important, and expensive, first years.
