For waves of generations, education has been the path to success and opportunity. Canadians work hard so that their children can get ahead with a post-secondary education.
Yet education has become more expensive and the burden of student debt drags down too many young people right when they are getting started in life.
A re-elected Liberal government will enact the following policies to support our young people:
- increase Canada Student Grants by another 40 per cent – giving students up to $1,200 more
- give students a two-year grace period on their student loans, interest free, and no repayments until they earn $35,000
- let parents pause student loan repayments — with no interest — when they start a family. Repayments won’t kick in until their youngest child turns 5 years old. That’s more money for things like baby gear and child care in those important, and expensive, first years.
